Solo Concert & Contest 2009
The band held its annual Audience Appreciation concert and solo contest on Thursday Feb. 26th.
As always, the soloists did a fine job, and the audience was fully entertained!
People attending this free concert were asked to donate non-perishable food for donation to the Salvation Army in Whitby. The audience was very generous and we received a full truck load of food. Thanks to everyone for helping those less fortunate!
The solo contest results:
Taking third place this year was Phil Crossley, playing “The Lazy Trumpeter” on Baritone.
Second place went to the ever lyrical Mhairi Holmer for her rendition of “Over the Rainbow”.
First place this year went to the big man himself, Gerry Murphy. He played his own arrangement of Czardas on Eb Bass (while hopping on one leg and humming!
It was a challenging piece and Gerry played it with his usual good humour and entertaining style!
Congratulations to all participants!
